A Backhoe Uncovered Florida's Strangest Secret in 1982

Case Files · S10:E10Runtime 39:40Published August 2, 2026Views 116,901

In 1982, a backhoe operator clearing a Florida peat pond pulled up a 7,000-year-old human skull. He had found Windover Bog, and 167 more people were down there with him. Ninety-one of them still had their brains. They belonged to a lost ancient civilization that vanished from Florida with no name, no written language, and no explanation. The Windover bog bodies were wrapped in hand-woven cloth and staked beneath the water in a burial ritual nobody has ever been able to explain, and half of them are still down there.
